27/07/2010 - Sean named as new FCC Captain
Sean Hillier has been named the new Club Captain taking over the armband from his retiring brother Paul.  Andy Taylor has been announced as the clubs' new Vice-Captain.

Of his appointment, Hillier told the FCC website "I am obviously chuffed to be named as Captain and will have a trusty Vice-Captain in Beaver (Andy Taylor) who is a top man and a good friend.

"I am looking forward to the challenge ahead but know it is going to be tough.  We have lost many key players and it will be a tough job to replace them, plus the fact that we cannot offer the crazy wages that other clubs can.  I know that Pitty is working hard behind the scenes to bring in quality, but it is not easy with the clubs' current financial situation.

"I will do all I can to assist with the clubs' ambitions and with the top young players we have coming through the ranks, I am posative the future can be rosy".

23/06/2010 - Michael Pulford Interview

New FC Clacton First-Team Assistant Manager Michael Pulford has spoken to the FC Clacton website about his delight in joining the club and how he is eagerly awaiting the start of the new season.  His appointment at the club has seen him team up once more with Steve Pitt in a reunion that goes back to their days together at Wivenhoe and Heybridge Swifts.

"Firstly, I would like to say how pleased I am to be joining FC Clacton.  One of the major factors in coming here was realising the type of people here and how good the set-up appears to be.  From the owners to the volunteers that assist the club, I knew that this was the right place to come to and in doing so, I am able to team up again with Steve (Pitt) and I cannot wait for the season to start.

"I worked with Steve when he was at Wivenhoe and at that time, I was their Under 18's Manager.  We have kept in touch ever since we departed the club and after a spell as Assistant Manager to Glenn Driver at Felixstowe & Walton United, Steve took me on once more to scout for him at Heybridge.  Then when the offer came to join him once more at Clacton, I was very quick to say yes and now we look to carry on the excellent job that David Coyle has done".

One of the most talked about words in football at the lower end of the game these days is 'budget' and it is well-known that at Clacton, it compares much lower to a number of Ridgeons League clubs that Michael does not believe will be too detrimental to the Seasiders hopes of a decent 2010/11 campaign.

"More and more clubs are now waking up to the reality of the credit crunch and none more so than in local football.  Our budget may be in the lower half of the Ridgeons Premier League but not too disimilar to that of a number of other clubs.

"But with a lot of clubs having to lower their budgets, this could be appealing for us as we are a club that certain players would feel happy in joining.  Of course, some players will go out for an extra £10 or £15 to join a club up the road, but then that said, I think that some will now join a club where they feel comfortable and happy to play at.  Ray Turner signing for us is a prime example.  Money did not necessarily play the biggest part in him coming to Clacton".

Michael was also delighted in the squad that the coaching team has inherited and feels lucky to already have good foundations in place for the new season.  “We have taken over a good squad here, one that is motivated by its togetherness and camaradarie and one that enjoys playing together.  We are of course looking to add three or four players to strengthen the squad but in terms of what is already here, we have already seen some of the players play between us and we know what they are about.  However, everyone of course starts with a clean slate and will have a chance to prove themselves for a place in the starting line-ups and on that basis, we could find that we only need maybe one more player to slot into the team or equally three or four to supplement the squad".

Michael had praise for the club owners, for the position they have put the club in since their arrival and has high hopes for 2010/11.  “We are happy with everything in place for us and we are grateful to Stephen Andrews and David Ballard for rescuing the club four years ago and getting it to where it is now.  With everything in place, there is no reason why we should not be aiming for a say top six or eight finish”.

So what can the players and supporters of FC Clacton expect from the new trio?  “All three of us will be on the bench on matchdays with Phil in charge of training.  Both Phil and I will be involved with the warm-ups prior to games, so you can say that we will all be hands on for sure.  We have certain standards that we obviously want the players to meet too.

“All three of us can be quite vocal so I’m sure we will have great competition with the Shelter boys once the season starts”.

09/06/2010 - Ray the Returner to the Bowl
New FC Clacton Manager Steve Pitt has made his first signing for the club in the shape of ex-Seasider Ray Turner.

The former Stanway Rovers man teams up again with Pitt having played alongside former irish international Adrian Coote during Wivenhoe Town's better days of recent years when Pitt was Manager at Broad Lane.

The striker made seven appearances for the Seasiders during the 2004/05 season without finding the net but has been prolific in recent seasons, scoring 51 goals for Halstead in just under the last two seasons.

Ironically, his last appearance for Halstead was against FC Clacton in the recent First Division Knockout Cup Final.

26/05/2010 - FCC website meets Steve Pitt

On the day that Steve Pitt was announced as the new man in charge of FC Clacton, he spoke to the FC Clacton website of his delight in succeeding David Coyle and is already looking forward to the challenge ahead.

"I am really pleased to have been offered this chance to manage FC Clacton and cannot wait until the season starts.

"When I was first made aware that David Coyle had resigned, I took a look at the club's website and the forum and saw what the club was about and within 24 hours, I met Stephen (Andrews) and David (Ballard) and was really impressed with what they had to say about the club and how they wanted to move forward in next seasons Ridgeons Premier Division.  Their ambitions met my own and I knew pretty much straight away that I wanted the job".

Steve, who lives in Danbury, has an illustrious CV at non-league level and was Manager of Wivenhoe Town in their healthier days of recent years during the period from 2003 to 2007 where he worked with another ex-Seasider.

"I was Manager at Wivenhoe when we reached the play-off semi-final in 2005 and then the play-off final in 2006 when we lost 2-1 to Stamford as we aimed for a place in the Southern League.  I had Paul Hillier in my side then and when he left to come back to Clacton, we remained in touch with one another ever since and he obviously made me aware of the fact that the club was looking for a new Manager too".

After leaving Wivenhoe, Steve then took up a role as Director of Football at Heybridge Swifts working with Brian Statham when the club played in the Ryman Premier League - step two of the non-league pyramid.  It was during this spell that Steve recalled one of his greatest achievements in the game.

"We finished 12th in the league in 2007/08 but had to endure a number of cuts in the playing budget.  Despite this, we still had a good season and competed and did very well to finish as high as we did".

His reign at Heybridge lasted a year before he left to join Colchester United to work under Paul Dyer as the clubs' non-league scout.  When Paul Lambert joined the U's, he scrapped the non-league scouting system and Steve was out of a job until he returned to Heybridge as assistant to Wayne Bond in 2009 but this role only lasted three months.

Whilst at Heybridge, the club had a link-up in place with Wivenhoe and the Colne Football College and it was at the latter where Steve teamed up with Michael Pulford and Phil Coleman and now the three have arrived together at the Rush Green Bowl as a new chapter for the club begins and Steve is already making plans for the new season.

"I think with the nucleus of players remaining with the club from last season and the ones I have in mind to bring to the club too, we hope to make a good account of ourselves in the Ridgeons Premier Division.  I will be looking to line-up some quality pre-season friendlies and am really looking forward to working with some very dedicated people at the club".
